*Spoilers ahead *
Being Eku's fourth film as a producer, this movie questions the faith and purpose of a devout man, Mr. Timi, played by Wale Ojo. After losing his faith and sense of purpose, he encounters a young man, Elijah, who helped him become a better person and made him understand his purpose.
This movie according to the executive producer, Derin Adeyokunnu, was to depict the importance of relationships and I must say that this movie did justice to it, helping us understand the dynamics of a relationship and how powerful relationships can really be.
The plot
Set in 1960, this film follows a man, Reverend Timi, as his faith was tried through the death of his wife and his daughter. This happened because he stood up against the notorious gang terrorising their community. After watching his wife and daughter burn up before his eyes, Mr. Timi became apathetic to life, became very irritable, and refused to leave his home. He became this way because after killing the man responsible for the brutal death of his wife and daughter, he tried killing himself using different methods, but nothing seemed to work. At this point, he was just a walking corpse, a very grouchy one. Luckily, his path crossed with Elijah, a young man who was looking for a job so that he could start his own church. This young man changed Mr Timi's life, helping him to actually live again.
This story is full of twists and turns that would make you think about life and the purpose of it.
Cinematography
The cinematography of this movie was top-tier, properly portraying the gloominess in the movie. The camera movements were exquisite, giving more reasons why this movie can be the movie of the year. The VFX, which is something not commonly used in Nollywood movies, was quite impressive and may go unnoticed by most. The payout of the movie was carefully thought of making the delivery superb.
Music/sound effects
Being one of the most important aspects of a movie, the music played in this film was able to relay the current situation that takes place in this movie. The soundtracks were soft and lighthearted, making one properly focus on the movie and emphasised the story being put across.
Summary-
Things wey make sense:
The director of this movie ate and left no crumbs. We can not deny that this movie was excellent in a lot of aspects.
The script was well written, and the twists and turns are sure to keep you engaged to your screen throughout the entirety of the movie.
The crew did a splendid job on the set. The makeup and the costumes were amazing and were quite nostalgic for the older audiences.
The performances by each actor were excellent, and each played their roles properly down to the extras.
Things wey no make sense:
To be honest, many things in this movie were questionable. Nothing paipain paspasse way the wife and daughter were murdered. Let us be for real. The man knew that he offended the baddest guy in town, but he still wanted to stay for reasons unclear.
When the wife's car was hijacked, we can all agree that the driver was at fault big time here. Despite seeing baby fire ahead, he was still moving forward even though he was told to reverse. In a real-life situation, any experienced driver would immediately switch gears and reverse.
But overall, this movie was top-notch and is definitely a 9/10 for me, and I believe everyone who watched this movie would agree.
