I was skeptical about what to expect in this movie due to the latest introduction of popular skit comedians to acting.
It’s no doubt that there are talented comedians who create applaudable content that passes sound messages with humor.
However I had certain reservations in respect to my expectations from these comedians. And was I impressed? Absolutely.
This movie made me laugh and still managed to make me sad at the same time.
PLOT
So the story introduces us to the love relationship between Johnny and Amara. Johnny who runs a small scale supermarket is in love with Amara but faces hostility from her father , Mr Kalu, who wants her to be married to a wealthy man.
Reasons being that Johnny isn’t as educated and financially buoyant as Deremi who Mr Kalu desires to be his son in law.
Not minding the condescending manner in which Deremi treats Mr Kalu and other workers in the company, Mr Kalu still encourages Amara to give Deremi a chance and hopefully take the family out of poverty.
Defying her father’s advice and marital suggestion for her , Amara finally decides to settle down with Johnny. Though their joy is short lived when Amara gets into an accident plunging Johnny into a spiral of suicidal thoughts.
But with the help of Vero his sister and Pato, his childhood friend, Johnny is able to survive his multiple suicide attempts.
HIGHS
The movie is an interesting watch as all actors brought their best game . For the fact there had few comedians on the cast I wasn’t expecting that level of performance. Sabinus nailed his role effortlessly with his ability to evoke both humor and empathy at same time.
Also if you want to have a god laugh, then this movie does it effectively. Even with the sadness at some point in the story, I was still able to smile through it.
Then the morals and message was passed through the awareness of suicide. Why people with suicidal tendencies need to be monitored and supported through their mental breakdown.
LOW
It would have been more unique if the storyline had a different twist from the typical nollywood pattern. Realizing Amara did not die and Johnny was actually a rich businessman gave it a stereotypical drama resolution in most nollywood movies.
Also the visuals gave the movie a gloomy tone considering the level of humor it contained.
I understand the concept of death and suicide that loomed for the better half of the story . However, the choice of cinematography did not match the content.
Conclusion
If you ever have doubts about the capabilities of skit comedians in a standard movie, this should clear your them. And the movie is great watch which guarantees you a good laugh and real life lessons.
